UVA-Wise and LMU-DCOM Students Partner Together for Community Service in Appalachia

Every last Saturday of the month, the Future Professionals Club of UVA-Wise partners with Lincoln Memorial University DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine students, as well as the Community Nourishment Project of Southwest Virginia, to provide a day of food, fellowship, and fun for community members in Norton, Virginia. Some of the past events that have been held include a Halloween Trunk or Treat, Thanksgiving dinner, and most recently, a Christmas market. As a part of the Christmas market, community members and their children could come “shop” for Christmas gifts free of charge and have the gifts wrapped by UVA-Wise and LMU students.

Check out the two videos below to hear from Kesha and Laura, two medical students at LMU-DCOM who are active in community service projects each Saturday. At the November event, Laura and Kesha created a tasting turkey to provide local children with the opportunity to try a variety of new foods that they may not have had the opportunity to taste before. Also, hear why Kesha and Laura enjoy studying and serving in Appalachia.
