SWVa GMEC is excited to announce that we have been approved for an Americorps VISTA position starting this September.
Often referred to as the domestic Peace Corps, Americorps VISTAs are appointed for a year long term to help combat contributors to poverty in their local communities. VISTAs receive a stipend and other benefits to assist them with cost of living expenses during their year of service.
GMEC’s VISTA will focus on community outreach, educating the public on healthcare access issues and on what legal requirements local hospitals and clinics must follow. The VISTA would be the community outreach arm, taking information to the public and gathering information on the understanding, perception, and use of existing or proposed resident and clinical outreaches. The VISTA would also work with legislative and community organizations to support the project.
